Bruce Lipton is an American cell biologist; he taught Cell Biology at the University of Wisconsin Medical School and later dedicated himself to pioneering research at Stanford University's School of Medicine. He is a world authority on the relationship between biology and behavior.
His revolutionary research on the cell membrane was a precursor to the new science of epigenetics and made Lipton one of the best-known voices of the new biology.
Lipton owes much of his fame to the belief and popularization of his theory according to which DNA and all the genetic heritage it contains can be modified with the power of thought. This theory of his is masterfully expressed in the book The Biology of Beliefs in which the author reiterates once again that what we believe influences who we are and where he describes step by step everything that needs to be done to be fully master of one's life without letting oneself be influenced from events, "when you change your beliefs you send completely different messages to your cells; in fact you are reprogramming yourself".
Lipton is known because he is a strong opponent of the key principle of molecular biology, according to which the flow of genetic information is one-way and therefore starts from nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) to reach proteins, while according to him it is also possible bidirectional with all possible interference from the environment. Obviously his theories have never been accepted by the scientific community nor published in scientific journals.
Furthermore, his ideas also contrast strongly with Charles Darwin's theory of the evolution of the species, because according to him Darwin excessively overestimated the competitive nature of living beings (the so-called natural selection), instead giving little importance to the interconnections between living beings which, he said, they would be the real stimulus to the evolution of the species.
In the book The Biology of Beliefs Bruce Lipton demonstrates conclusively that the environment, our thoughts and our experiences determine who we are, our bodies and every aspect of our lives. What we believe determines who we are, and that it is not our DNA that determines our life and our health.
Through each chapter Lipton guides the reader by explaining why the time has come to abandon the old beliefs that the scientific and academic community and the mass media have instilled in us, and to move towards the new and exciting perspective of health, well-being and abundance offered by this science cutting edge: epigenetics.
This is a great revolution in science and human thought, which frees us from the prison of destiny. How much importance our thoughts acquire then, whether positive or negative, when they are in harmony with the subconscious, on our behavior and that of our genes.
If the environment and thinking influence our biology, this can change the knowledge and experiences lived by most of us to date. In fact, each of us has the potential to create a life full and overflowing with every gift and talent, starting with health, happiness and love.
Every cell in our body can be compared to an intelligent being, endowed with intentionality and purpose, capable of surviving independently, whose true "brain" is made up of the membrane. This discovery leads to a stunning conclusion: genes do not control our biology, instead the environment influences the behavior of cells. This leads to important new consequences regarding well-being, happiness and the nature of diseases such as cancer and schizophrenia.
